Melissa began playing volleyball in 1999 at the age of 11. She played for Orlando Volleyball Academy (OVA) as a Libero and Setter from 12U through 18U. In 2006, Melissa graduated from Winter Park High School with two Florida State Championships under her belt as a Libero; specifically, in 2004 she assisted in leading Winter Park to an undefeated season. Melissa ended her high school career playing for the 2005 Team Florida and the USA Junior National Team in 2006.

Melissa accepted a full scholarship to play for the University of Central Florida (UCF). During her freshman season she set the NCAA Record for total digs in a single season. She graduated from UCF where she majored in Interdisciplinary Studies and minored in Coaching and Communications.

Melissa is our Co-Director of Volleyball and Head Coach at Rush Premier Sports. Prior to joining RPS, for four seasons, she was the director of The NVL Professional Beach Tour. She also coached at OVA for three seasons and was the Head Coach for both boys and girls West Orange High School Volleyball Teams.

Karolina “Kaya” Marciniak (nèe Sowala) was born in Poland where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education. She began her professional beach career representing Poland on the FIVB Swatch Tour (2009-12). She placed third place in U21 World Championship in Brighton, England in 2008 and third place in the 2007 U20 European Championship in Scheveningen, Netherlands.

In 2014, Kaya received her Master’s degree in Sports Business Management from Webber International University. She began her college coaching career in 2017 as an Assistant Coach for the Florida Atlantic Beach Volleyball Program. The Sandy Owls notched 13 wins in 2019 and ended the season ranked 16th in the nation.

Kaya was one of the top performing athletes in the National Volleyball League. She has taken twelve victories over the past four seasons including multiple awards for her efforts. She also competed on AVP and has recorded two top-five finishes in 2017 and 3rd place in 2018.

Kaya is married to fellow AVP professional and Rush Volleyball coach, Piotr Marciniak. The couple welcomed their first child, Michael, in March of 2019.

Piotr Marciniak was born and raised in Poland and began playing volleyball at the age of 13. Marciniak started playing indoor professionally in 2004 and played for the Polish National Team from 2005-2006. Between 2010 and 2011, he competed for top Egyptian professional indoor team.

After moving to the United States in 2012 to pursue his Masters degree, Piotr transitioned to playing beach volleyball on the AVP Tour. He successfully secured three top 5 finishes and a third place with Rafu Rodrigues in Hermosa Beach, CA. In his free time, Piotr loves to spend time with his wife Karolina and son Michael. He enjoys playing golf.

Colby Hazelip, Volleyball Coach

Colby was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, where he began his love for volleyball in 2017. In five short years, Colby was able to become a true student of the game and has been coaching juniors beach since 2018. In 2022, Hazelip relocated to Florida to pursue his passion for the sport. He worked as an assistant coach for the University of Tampa for the 2022-23 season. He has also coached for Louisville Beach Juniors, Optimum Beach, JBVA, BeVolley Academy, and has worked many clinics as a college coach.

With a background in postural alignment therapy, years of open level playing experience, and one year of playing indoor with the University of Louisville varsity club team, he brings a dynamic approach to competition and overall health and well-being.
Sara Putt, Coach and Nutritionist

Sara Putt
Coach & Performance Dietician

Sara is an All-American, 4x CCSA conference champion, NCAA National Championship Finalist and 4x All-conference team award recipient from playing beach volleyball at Florida State University. She graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Dietetics and has a Masters in Clinical Nutrition.

Born and raised in South Florida, Sara has been traveling and playing beach volleyball tournaments across the country for over 10 years. For the past 2 years, she has been working as a Registered Dietitian while training, competing, and coaching. Along with learning from some of the best coaches in the game, Sara has been coaching for over 6 years at beach volleyball clubs, high schools and camps.

Adan Coronado
Strength & Conditioning Coach
Adan has extensive experience working with youth, high school and collegiate athletes. He is a former athlete and has remained active in multiple sports. He also understands the tools from the strength conditioning world and has influenced the performance enhancement of the following sports: volleyball, golf and tennis at the academy.
Nigel Maven, Trainer
Nigel Maven, MS, ATC, CES, PESAthletic Trainer
Nigel is a passionate and experienced athletic trainer with experience at athletic levels ranging from high school to college athletics to professional sports teams.

Nigel is originally from Colorado and has traveled extensively for his studies and career. He's lived in in Texas, New York, Louisiana, Arizona and Florida. Nigel holds many certifications including Certified Athletic Trainer, Performance Enhancement Specialist, and Correction Exercise Specialist. Nigel's experience and professional drive helps keep our athletes healthy and ready for the highest levels of competition.
